IGWN offline data¶
As well as the low-latency distribution, observatory data are archived for offline analysis and for custodial storage.
These data are typically separated into two datasets.
Raw data¶
The 'raw' dataset for an observatory includes the full record of all acquired data, including instrumental and environmental sensors.
These data are stored in short files (typically ~1 minute long) but include many thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of data channels. These data are typically only available at the computing centre for that observatory.
The name of the 'raw' dataset is different for each observatory:
Observatory | Raw dataset name |
---|---|
KAGRA | K1_R |
LIGO-Hanford | H1_R |
LIGO-Livingston | L1_R |
Virgo | raw |
These data should be discoverable using the GWDataFind system.
Aggregated strain data¶
The 1-second low-latency data are made available for rapid analysis with few seconds/minutes latency. For higher-latency analysis, the 1-second data packets are aggregated into longer files (typically a few thousand seconds) for custodial storage and distribution.
These data are available at the local computing centre for each observatory, but are also distributed using CVMFS for global access by large-scale analysis workflows.
IGWN members should see the relevant subpage of the JRPC Wiki for information on the name of the relevant aggregated strain data for each observing epoch.
These data should be discoverable using the GWDataFind system.
