Managing shared accounts on the LIGO Data Grid

To support management of data processing pipelines by groups of collaborators, the Computing and Software working group supports 'shared accounts'.

A shared account is a user account on one or more computing centres that can be accessed by one or more IGWN members using their personal access credentials.

View shared accounts

To see a list of all shared accounts, see

https://ldg.ligo.org/ldg/sharedaccounts/

To view and/or manage shared accounts to which you already have access, see

Requesting a new shared account

To ask for a new shared account:

  1. Contact the chairs of a search group to initiate a new shared account request.

    Working Group Contact address
    Burst burst-chairs@ligo.org
    CBC cbc-chairs@ligo.org
    CW cw-chairs@ligo.org
    Detchar detchar-chairs@ligo.org
    Computing igwn-computing-chars@ligo.org
    SGWB stoch-chairs@ligo.org
  2. After their approval create a help desk ticket here to create a shared account request.

Managing a shared account

Asking for access

To request access to a shared account, contact the administrator of that shared account. If you aren't sure who the administrators are, please ask the working group chairs.

Computing and Software are not responsible for managing shared account access

The Computing and Software working group are responsible for maintaining the infrastructure that allows the other working group chairs to delegate management of the shared accounts associated with that group.

The Computing and Software working group are not responsible for management of the accounts after they are created, please contact the working group chairs.

In the event that the working group chairs are unresponsive, or management access has been lost, please ask for help.

Adding users

If you are a manager of a shared account and want to add/remove someone from that account:

  1. First you have to browse to the appropriate folder.

    Working group Shared account list
    Burst Services:sharedaccounts:burst
    CBC Services:sharedaccounts:cbc
    CW Services:sharedaccounts:cw
    Computing & Software Services:sharedaccounts:computing-software
    Detchar Services:sharedaccounts:detchar
    GWOSC Services:sharedaccounts:gwosc
    Low latency Services:sharedaccounts:lowlatency
    SGWB Services:sharedaccounts:sgwb
    Other Services:sharedaccounts:other
  2. Select the appropriate subgroup to modify:

    • To add a user to a shared account at a particular cluster select the <group>-<cluster> group (e.g. gstlalcbc-cit)
    • To add a user to a shared account at all the clusters use the <group>-all group.
  3. Click + Add members and enter the member name in the top input box. Click Add to finalise this change.

  4. Allow one hour for the shared account to new users to get reflected at the modified clusters.

Adding a new shared account manager

If you are a manager of a shared cluster account and want to give another management access, follow the same workflow as above, but add the user to the <group>-admin group.
