The IGWN Computing Grid¶
What is the IGWN Computing Grid?¶
This IGWN Computing Grid is a coordinated set of distributed computing centres operated by IGWN members groups. These centres dedicate some or all of their available resources to enable the scientific research of the IGWN collaborations.
The member computing centres mainly coordinate to provide execute resources for distributed computing workflows, but many individual sites provide extra services to support interactive computing, including terminal access (
ssh), Jupyter notebook servers, and hosting of content for viewing on a web browser.
The LIGO Data Grid¶
The LIGO Data Grid (LDG) is a subset of the IGWN Computing Grid operated by the LIGO Laboratory and LIGO Scientific Collaboration member groups that share common infrastructure. In particular accounts and access management for all LDG computing centres is centrally controlled from a single web portal.
For full details on the LDG, its members, and its configuration, see The LIGO Data Grid (LDG).
Access to computing centres¶
Direct access to the computing centres is, in general, not centrally managed (the exception being the LDG centre group, see above); to gain access to a specific computing centre, please refer to the instructions on that site's page (see the left-hand menu).
How to use the grid¶
The pages under the Computing centres navigation submenu describe the available resources and services provided by various IGWN Computing Grid centres.
For instructions on how effectively use the IGWN Computing Grid, please refer to the pages under the 'Distributed computing' section in the site menu.
